Last night, I had to make a choice: do my homework or sit outside with a cigar and a bourbon.
I’ve gone back to school to earn my MBA, and I’m currently in a Predictive Analytics class that regularly pushes me out of my comfort zone. Last night, I didn’t feel like doing the work. The easier option was tempting. I caught myself rationalizing—putting it off, convincing myself I could do it later, telling myself other things were more important.
And if I’m being honest, that same scenario plays out every day across our business. That’s the point.
Discipline shows up when you don’t feel like it. Focus matters most when it’s easiest to lose it.
I mentioned our initiatives and focus areas in last month’s newsletter. As we move into the second quarter, staying aligned with our objectives—and the outcomes we committed to—matters more than ever. This is the point where things start to slip if we’re not intentional. It’s easy to drift back into our comfort zones and default to day‑to‑day activity instead of meaningful progress.
Stay focused on what matters. Be clear on what you’re accountable for. Measure success by outcomes, not effort. And just as important, stop doing the things that don’t move us forward.
I’m not perfect. There are plenty of times I’ve chosen the easy path and regretted it later. But for the record, I did my homework last night—and there will be plenty of time for that cigar when I graduate next spring.

Cool Treats and Even Cooler Company
Our Memorial Day celebration was bursting with flavor! Thanks to Handel’s, we cooled down with their famous chocolate-covered ice cream pops—smooth, creamy, and coated in a perfectly crisp chocolate shell.
It was the perfect excuse to step away, connect, and enjoy a little time together. Proof that a little chocolate, a lot of smiles, and a great team make for the perfect celebration! |
Sprinkles, Smiles, and a Sweet Start to the Day
In honor of National Donut Day, we brought in a variety of donuts from Giant Eagle today to share across the team. With so many options to choose from, there was something for everyone, making it easy to join in and enjoy.
Beyond the delicious treats, the real highlight was the chance to pause and take a break. In the middle of busy schedules, it created space for casual conversations, laughter, and a moment to recharge together.
It’s these small, intentional moments that help build a stronger team—proving that a simple box of donuts can go a long way in bringing people together.
